Gayatri Nair is a Chennai based photographer. An Air Force kid, she grew up across India and then moved abroad. After studying to be an engineer in Singapore, she worked her way up the ladder at a bank, first in Singapore and then in New York.
On moving back to India, she took up photography full-time, translating a long-term hobby into her profession. She has shot dozens of weddings all over India (and in Singapore) in addition to fashion and product shoots. Her curiosity has taken her around India, from capturing the barber shops of Pushkar's back streets to the electioneering around Amethi during last year's general elections.
She lives in Chennai with 1 husband, 1 cat and 4 dogs.
The Urban History Project is a community led exploration of India's urban transformations. UHP fellows collaborate with our team of designers, data scientists and programmers to explore online storytelling in their chosen field of research.
